La investigación tuvo como propósito central, examinar el ecoturismo como una opción de desarrollo sostenible en el corregimiento de Carraipia, municipio de Maicao, con el objetivo de proponer estrategias de posicio- namiento. Se sustentó bajo las bases teóricas de Rodríguez (2012), Rivera (2010), Hernández & Marín (2004); que sustentan las teorías de Ecoturismo y Gutiérrez (2017), Arias (2013) y Bermejo (2012). Además, se utilizó el enfoque cualitativo, de tipo descriptivo, el cual se in- teresa por la comprensión de las interacciones que se dan en la realidad de los mecanismos que intervienen en ella, el diseño aplicado fue la investiga- ción acción que se basa en el posicionamiento de intervención no neutro ni distante del investigador cuya acción, junto a la de las comunidades impli- cadas, ayuda a transformar la realidad. De acuerdo a las condiciones de la investigación, contexto y de los informantes claves; se aplicó como técnica para recabar la información la entrevista; con un guión de 14 preguntas, aplicadas a cinco informantes claves. Se llevó a cabo un análisis, descripción e interpretación de la información, categorizando las entrevistas y estableciendo tres subcategorías en la re- ducción fenomenológica: atractivos ecoturísticos, el impacto del ecoturis- mo y las modalidades de desarrollo sostenible. Se analizó cada subcate- goría, triangulando la información. Al final, se establecieron conclusiones y recomendaciones dirigidas a mejorar las falencias identificadas en el es- tudio, en particular en relación a tácticas de posicionamiento utilizando el ecoturismo como una alternativa para el desarrollo sostenible.

The main purpose of the research was to examine ecotourism as a sustaina- ble development option in the township of Carraipia, Maicao municipality, with the aim of proposing positioning strategies. It was based on the theo- retical bases of Rodríguez (2012), Rivera (2010), Hernández & Marín (2004); that support the theories of Ecotourism and Gutiérrez (2017), Arias (2013) and Bermejo (2012). In addition, the qualitative approach was used, of a descriptive type, which is interested in understanding the interactions that occur in the reality of the mechanisms that intervene in it, the applied design was action research that is based on the positioning of intervention that is neither neutral nor distant from the researcher whose action, together with that of the com- munities involved, helps to transform reality. According to the conditions of the investigation, context and key informants; The interview was applied as a technique to collect the information; with a script of 14 questions, applied to five key informants. An analysis, description and interpretation of the information was carried out, categorizing the interviews and establishing three subcategories in the phenomenological reduction: ecotourism attractions, the impact of eco- tourism and the modalities of sustainable development. Each subcategory was analyzed, triangulating the information. In the end, conclusions and recommendations were established aimed at improving the shortcomings identified in the study, particularly in relation to positioning tactics using ecotourism as an alternative for sustainable development
